The "Lady Louise Speaks to Kindness" initiative was launched this month to promote those individuals whose acts of kindness are helping others in their communities, state and nation. Katelynn Hardee of California was the first recipient of the award. Katelynn stepped up to raise money when she realized that some children in her school had past-due lunch accounts. According to the Vista Unified School District in Katelynn's area, breakfast and lunch combined can cost as much as $3.50 a day for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. When a student's debt exceeds $10, they are offered an "alternative meal" of hummus, string cheese, chips, fruit or vegetable and milk.

Katelynn wanted all students to be able to receive a traditional meal, and she arranged a hot cocoa and baked goods sale to pay off debts. Her actions inspired others to do the same. Clearly, her kindness made a difference!

Katelynn's story reached our attention, and we were proud to award her the "Lady Louise" books as our first honoree. We've learned from Katelynn's mother, Karina Hardee, that more exciting news from Katelynn's initiative is forthcoming, and we look forward to sharing future developments.

Follow our book news on our two Facebook accounts: Lady Louise Books shares news about the adventures of Lady Louise, and Karen Petit Books provides updates on all of our writing.

"Lady Louise Speaks to Kindness" will announce another award recipient in March! Stay tuned! We are off to the best start with Katelynn!
